Britannia Neighbours is a volunteer group in the Grandview neighbourhood of Vancouver. We undertake projects that help to keep our neighbourhood interesting and engaged. Among our projects are maintenance of the Napier Square Greenway at the entry to the Britannia Community Centre, the East Van Garden Tour, and the Grandview Garden Club. We always welcome new volunteers!
We've been maintaining the Greenway now for 25 years. The City helped us to design and install the Greenway back in 2000–2001, transforming a half block of street and parking spots into an urban oasis and a pleasant entry to Britannia Centre. The City said they'd help us install it if we'd look after it... Now it's 25 years later. Lots of the plants are mature now. We've learned which plants thrive and which don't in that trampled and shady space.
Anyway, we're there most Monday afternoons from 2:00 until 3:00 or later. Do join us any time.

We host the East Van Garden Tour on Father's Day every year to raise money to support our efforts.

We’ll have a work party tomorrow, Monday, May 4th, at 2:00. It was pretty hot today but should be a tad cooler tomorrow. See you there! Also, if you find (or have) any little metal or plastic end tables (probably not wood, which doesn’t do that well outdoors), Greenway users seem to appreciate having a little table by every bench. Someone, it seems, stole the plastic one we put there last week. Sigh. And I wrote “Napier Greenway” on it in black magic marker! We may need to chain the tables to the chairs.
Also, all the lights in the Greenway were out for a few weeks, but it seems enough people complained and now they’re back on. Here’s a photo from a few days ago, when they were out. The only light you can see through the Greenway is the lit VPL window way in the distance.
