We've scheduled a Napier Square Greenway work party for Saturday a.m. May 24th, at 10:30-12:00 at which we will do some clean-up, weeding, and planting.
We plan to have some impatiens ... Also, we picked up a few bags of hyacinth bulbs, leftover from Queen Elizabeth Park, and we can plant them around the hostas to look beautiful in the early spring and to protect the hostas when their tender shoots first come up.
Bring secateurs, gardening gloves, trowel, shovel, rake, what-have-you.
Hope to see you then. (No need to let me know if you can't make it.)

Busking kids. Note the ironing board piano stand! They were terrific!

And, while I have your attention, don't forget this year's East Vancouver Tour of Private Gardens! It's organized by Britannia Neighbours. This year's self-guided tour takes place on Sunday, June 22nd. (Note that this year it's not on Father's Day, as has been our tradition.... We decided not to compete with the Car-Free Commercial Drive Festival.) As in previous years, however, you can get your tickets — only $10 per person — in advance by registering at Britannia Community Centre, 604-718-5800, or, either in advance or on the day of the tour, at Figaro's Garden in person at 1896 Victoria Drive at 3rd Avenue or by phone at 604-253-1696. We recommend, however, that you sign up ahead of time. The tour is very popular, and tickets are limited. On the day of the tour, go to Figaro's to pick up your ticket and a map that shows the locations of the gardens on the tour. The tour runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Note that gardens are not wheelchair-accessible, children must be 12 years or older (or babes in arms), and pets and photos are not allowed.
You may want to take the tour for free! If you have time to garden-sit for a while in one of our gardens this year, please let Pat Davitt know (604-253-1885). If you garden-sit, you can get free admission to the other gardens on the tour!
