Work party tomorrow, Greenway, Monday, May 25th, 3:00!

Hi Folks,
We'll plant a nice rhodo at the peak of the berm by Sweet Cherubim, which Christine and I got at GardenWorks last week, and we'll plant some pansies in "Paul's Folly".
And, since it's been quite dry, we'll water the Greenway and the cement planters in the courtyard. And do a bit of weeding.
If you can make it, please bring your gardening gloves, weeding tools, shovel, etc. I'll bring some garden-refuse bags.
Hope to see you!

New plants in the Britannia courtyard...

Hi.

Just wanted to let you know that Britannia Neighbours has assumed responsibility for the eleven cement planters in the Brit courtyard and, this morning, we put over $500 worth of plants into them.
Please notice and enjoy them!

And please also let the kids around Brit know that they are super-special plants and that they should be kind to them.

The two largest are trees. There's a new/replacement Al Stusiak Memorial Tree, which had died, a Stewartia pseudo camellia, and the one farthest west is a ginkgo biloba, one of the most ancient trees in the world, and we were wondering if it should be named the Doug Soo Memorial Tree. Perhaps the new Brit Board could decide that?
Doug was a lovely man and a terrific champion of Britannia (was Executive Director for a few years, starting in 1985) and he died suddenly at age 65 in January 2014.

Spread the word, everyone!
Thanks very much.

Penny on behalf of Brit Neighbours

The trees and shrubs should be delivered at 10:00!

News Bulletin!
GardenWorks delivery person has called me … The trees and shrubs will be delivered at 10:00!
If you're available, please meet me at the west end of the Greenway to help plant them!
Bring shovel/wheelbarrow/gardening gloves if you have them.
Thanks!

Work Party tomorrow -- Monday, May 18th -- in the Greenway!

Hi Brit Neighbours!
Christine and I went to GardenWorks a couple of days ago and bought some trees and shrubs to be planted in the large cement planters in the courtyard down at Britannia and they are going to be delivered tomorrow (Monday). They can't tell us exactly what time they'll deliver, but I hope they arrive relatively early in the morning, so we can get them in before lunch.
Anyway, we will need as many helpers as we can assemble tomorrow, and, unfortunately, I don't yet know what TIME we will need you. If you are available, please check this blog in the morning! As soon as I hear from GardenWorks that the trees/shrubs will be delivered — they said they'd call an hour or so before they will arrive —  I'll post another message out to let you know what time they will get to us.
Cheers and thanks!

Plants/trees!

Hi all,

Christine and I went to GardenWorks this afternoon and selected some trees and plants to buy for the Greenway and the planters in the courtyard.
We think they will give us a 20% discount but we will have to pay for the delivery. Christine is writing the letter to the manager of GardenWorks to secure the discount.

* For the Al Stusiak planter, we got a Stewartia pseudo camellia.
* We thought we'd keep the styrax japonica (snowbell tree) that had been topped/broken because it looks so nice, now that it's leafed out and has flower buds all over it. So we got another one for the planter on the other side of the Al Stusiak tree.
* For the large planter at the west end, we got a ginko biloba.
* For one of the remaining planters, we got a very nice viburnum mariesii (summer snowflake, which is a UBC introduction).
* We also got a very nice looking red rhodo (not huge, but it'll grow!) for the centrepiece in the southeast Greenway berm.

Some of us will be going to the Greenway tomorrow morning to continue to work on the pile of soil and to get the planters ready for their new plants/trees!
Please join us if you can!

Work Party, Monday, 3:00 or so!

We'll be having a SERIOUS work party Monday. The City is sending us a big load of soil/compost, and we'll be topping up the beds and the planters in the Brit courtyard. The soil is due to arrive at 2:30. So come any time after 2:00 to weed the planters and get them ready for new soil. Bring your shovel, wheelbarrow, buckets, gardening gloves, whatever!
See you there. No need to RSVP. Just come if you can!

Work Party in the Greenway tomorrow (Monday, May 4th), 3:00 p.m.

Hi Britannia Neighbours,
Unless it's raining right at 3:00 tomorrow (and it might be … there is rain in the forecast), we are going to have a work party in the Greenway. Please come if you can. No need to RSVP. Just bring your favourite gardening tools (secateurs, kneeling pad, weeding tool, trowel, gloves, rake, etc.) and I'll bring garden-waste bags. We have extra tools if you need them.
3:00, Greenway, May 4th!
Cheers,
Penny
