Subject: UPDATE: Grandview-Woodland Community Plan - LAUNCH events

Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to be able to provide an update on the various launch events (and more) that are taking place in connection with the Grandview-Woodland Community Plan.  The main activities get underway with our May 11 Storytelling event - but thanks to the good folks at the Museum of Vancouver and Spacing Magazine we've also managed to stitch in another bit of weekend fun before then.

Details for all the items can be found below.  First, a quick plug for your assistance: we want to make sure as many people as possible are aware of the planning process and the upcoming activities.  We'll be postering over the weekend and doing a mail-drop shortly thereafter.  This will hopefully give us some good coverage... but neither of these routes is as good a channel as your own personal networks.

If you could take a moment to forward this notice to your neighbourhood contacts we'd be grateful.  And if you could steer your Grandview-Woodland friends and neighbours to our email list-serv that'd be fantastic.  (For the fans of social media out there, we also do twitter now as well!)

Many thanks in advance.  I look forward to seeing you at these events!

Warmly,

Andrew P.

UPCOMING G-W COMMUNITY PLANNING EVENTS

Sunday, May 6 @ 10:30am - Jane's Walk - Grandview-Woodland

Jane's Walks were established in 2007 to honour the legacy of Jane Jacobs.  They've grown from a small series of walking tours to a world-wide endeavour.

Join the Museum of Vancouver and Spacing Vancouver for a walking tour of the community and an exploration of the things that make Grandview-Woodland unique.  Members of the G-W planning team will also be on hand to answer questions about the planning process.

You can find details about registration (and all Jane's Walk events) at janeswalk.net<http://janeswalk.net/walks/view/home_an_exploration_of_what_makes_grandview-woodland_unique/> - or find your way directly to the G-W walk by following the link at vancouver.ca/grandviewplan.

Friday, May 11, 7 - 10 pm - Stories of Grandview-Woodland

Our official kick-off event for the G-W Plan!  Come hear the stories and experiences of Grandview-Woodland as told by members of the community.  This evening event features a unique mix of story-telling and music and will profile a sampling of the many diverse 'stories of home' that one finds in the neighbourhood.

We'll also be showcasing some of the materials that are being developed for the planning process: a bit of a sneak-peek in advance of the more formal open houses we'll be running.  Hope you can join us - it promises to be a fun event!  Takes place at the WISE Hall, 1882 Adanac Street (at Victoria).  The event is FREE but you must register to attend.

Saturday, May 12 @ 9:30am - Exploring Neighbourhood Energy Futures - A Special Workshop for Grandview-Woodland and Marpole

Please join us at one of two upcoming "Exploring Neighbourhood Energy Futures" workshop at the new Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) at UBC. See details for May 26 event (below).

Sunday, May 13, 11 am - 3 pm - Grandview-Woodland Open House - Mother's Day Edition

We'll be having a fun, family-friendly Open House at the Waldorf Hotel.  Drop by and join us for face-painting, button-making, asset mapping and more.  We'll have an assortment of Waldorf 'bits and bites' to snack on, the awesome sounds of Joaquin Gonzalez Cardona, guitarist, and an opportunity to learn more about the community planning process and how to get involved.

Takes place at the Waldorf Hotel, 1489 East Hastings Street.

Wednesday, May 16, 5 - 9 pm - Grandview-Woodland Open House - Weeknight Edition

More Open House fun, this time at Café Deux Soleils, 2096 Commercial Drive.

Saturday May 26 @ 9:30am - Exploring Neighbourhood Energy Futures - A Special Workshop for Grandview-Woodland and Marpole

Please join us at one of two upcoming "Exploring Neighbourhood Energy Futures" workshop at the new Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) at UBC.

As we plan for the future of our neighbourhoods, it is increasingly important that we account for the role played by energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.  These workshops will bring members of Grandview-Woodland and Marpole communities together to explore how energy works in neighbourhoods, and how we might collectively plan for a lower carbon future.

Workshops will start at 9:30am at UBC and will run until early afternoon.  Lunch and snacks will be served. Transit tickets will be provided.  Space for these workshops is limited.  To register, please email titania.lam@vancouver.ca<mailto:titania.lam@vancouver.ca>.  When doing so, please indicate your name, home address, contact phone and email.
